Ecological migration and vulnerability. Pinseskoven, Amager, Denmark. Black and white image

Ecological migration and vulnerability. Pinseskoven, Amager, Denmark. March 10, 2024. This birch forest is located on Amager, near Copenhagen, and it is the largest birch forest in Denmark. Amager is partly a landfill, and the birch forest was established there after the Second World War, apparently because seeds from birch trees in Sweden had been carried across the sea by the wind. Hence, the forest is an example of what one might call ecological migration. As the image shows, the edges of the forest are vulnerable to storms.
