I photograph local and regional locations, partly because I want to reduce my carbon footprint, partly because I have a connection to these locations, which is important for creating personal images. I categorize my images according to location and provide captions tying in the images to specific locations (unless they are ecologically sensitive); I do not share the modernist and postmodernist tendency to de-contextualize nature and to eliminate the ontological weight of nature.

In the tradition of landscape photography, the picturesque, depopulated and non-industrialized landscape is often favoured as a subject. Although I admit that I find such areas deeply fascinating, I have some ethical reservations about making them the exclusive subject of my landscape photography: It is dishonest, as far as our modern world is often very different; it tends to generate overtourism in ecologically sensitive areas; and it distracts us from finding beauty in nearby and easily ignored areas at the edges of human habitats. For these reasons, I include areas marked by human presence in my photographs.

I follow the guidelines stipulated in Nature first
